Thanksgiving Food Drive 2019

It has been another challenging year for us at Pantry 279. We continue to grow steadily and substantially. We are now serving over 1000 families ( which equal 3300+ individuals! ). Mostly from Monroe, Green and Owen counties but we are now serving families in a twelve county region.

Our very first Thanksgiving Food Drive came as a bit of a surprise. We weren’t intending to do a food drive for Thanksgiving. But that changed when we noticed a need in our communities that wasn’t being served. With just a 2 week preparation time, and no experience, we set a goal of feeding 700 families. After it was over, the final count was 807 boxes distributed to local families.

In 2017 ( year 2 ), we again accepted the challenge of Thanksgiving and made the goal 1200 boxes. An ambitious goal, but the community once again came together, showed their support and provided the needed items and money.2018, what a year! Due to a few global tragedies, donations feel short at first, but with the help of the media getting the word out, the community pulled together and came in super strong! We were able to hand out 1507 boxes, feeding a total of 8,237 individuals.

This year, we will once again to put our resources, experience, and energy into feeding 1500 families in our communities a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

We are starting preparations NOW. Sign-ups for boxes are open starting Sept. 1 and will run through Nov. 21 at 11:59pm. We rely on the kindness and good work of the members, organizations, and businesses of our community. If you would like to donate food , your time, or money please click the link to go to the appropriate sign-up page. It is your generosity that makes Thanksgiving possible for many of our families. I can’t stress how important this program has become. Many of these families hadn’t had the ability to have a Thanksgiving Dinner together in their homes in years. It is always so inspiring and exciting to watch our community come together over this and rally, making what should be an impossible task, possible. A shining example for the rest of the country in brother/sisterhood and helping to care for each other. We at Pantry279, and the families who receive these baskets, are extremely grateful. Thank You!

Pick up day is Nov. 23, 10:30 – 6:30 at the Pantry, located at Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 E. Temperance , Ellettsville, IN 47429.
