Give from Your IRA, a Tax Savvy Way to Donate to Pantry 279
If you’re 70½ or older, you can donate directly from your traditional IRA to Pantry 279 without paying income tax on the gift. This is known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD.
How it works:
- You must be 70½ or older at the time of the gift.
- Funds must transfer directly from your IRA custodian to Pantry 279, the money should never pass through your hands.
- You can give up to $111,000 per year this way.
- If you’re 73 or older, a QCD can count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.
- The gift is excluded from your taxable income, even if you don’t itemize deductions.
How to give:
Contact your IRA custodian and request a direct charitable distribution to Pantry 279. Our EIN is 81-3024014. Please let us know if you have any questions or if a gift is coming, as many custodians don’t notify us directly.
This is not tax or legal advice. Please consult your financial or tax advisor to see if a QCD is right for you.
