This is a poem written by Felicia N. who many of you know as "the produce lady" who volunteers at the Pantry. I hope you enjoy it!
WE ARE WARRIORS
We are Warriors: A Pantry Warrior,
We are over 50, some retired, some employed.
We work for free, you may think,
But we get paid everyday, every hour.
How? You ask, I thought you were volunteers?
You see, the thank yous
The excitement of a child upon receiving grapes, bananas, or a treat,
A smile, a tear
Stories of how people are making it with our help,
Those things, they pay our hearts, our souls.
It's more valuable than money.

The work is hard,
That is true.
But knowing you will have a little less struggle,
That's what we do!
Yes, we get cold, we get hot,
We get wet, and we sweat
And we muddle thru.

We arrive at 10am ( sometimes before )
We leave at 7pm , or later.
We unload trucks,
Sometimes 2 or 3 a day!
But we smile and laugh our pains away.

I have had a career over the years,
Made amazing money along the way!
But I found the happiness I never had in the corporate world,
the day I put on the shirt that read " Pantry Warrior"
I became a warrior, a Pantry warrior.

So always remember,
those days we may grumble.
It's not you that made us rumble.
We are HUMAN and get tired,
sore,
cold,
hot,
or wet.
Just a smile or a nod is all we need,
Not a Can you hurry please!
Sometimes the lines are a bit slow
But kindness and compassion always show.

Someone once said " You should wear capes!
You are heros you know"
But we are Warriors!
We hold the front lines,
the front lines of hunger and despair,
Warriors work hard for our community,
work hard everyday,
So that hunger stays away and ALL may eat.

We are warriors,
Yes we are,
But we are also Pantry 279 Warriors,
the best kind!

We need bags for delivery desperately! We like to use the clickit bags from Kroger. If you have some laying around or have a hookup to get them from the source....please consider donating them!

Thank you

Summer of Love! SO why do I bring up this nostalgic saying? Well, buckle up, this may be a longer one! The world is very harsh right now, and we all have our opinions and fears, but the one thing we can all agree on is that we do NOT want our families, friends, and communities to go hungry. I won't sugar coat it, it's been a hard couple of weeks, and it's probably going to get harder before it gets better. One of our dear readers, a few weeks ago, advised us to be patient, things will happen, and while a few things in the food world have happened, a tiny bit, it's not enough to handle the huge increase in need yet. So, we are starting the Summer of Love campaign! We have NEVER had to purchase a ton of food until this year, sure a little, but not like this. We are hoping to raise $20,000 by Sept 1. to cover costs of food, gas, and basic needs ( rent, electricity ) . Food donations are of course ALWAYS appreciated and welcomed. **Also, please keep in mind, ALL of us in the food bank/pantry world are hurting, donations to ANY food pantry or food bank are very much needed.**
Let's make this about sharing the love too. If you would like to donate in honor of someone, or something someone has done that you would like recognized, put it in the notes of the donation, and we will bring that to light. We will also put their name or deed in a heart and put it up in the pantry on our windows. Times are rough, but we are best when we bond together to HELP each other. Thank you and please share!
Donations can be made via PayPal pantry279@yahoo.com
