Let's talk about delivery! I know we have this chat from time to time, but I guess it's time again. Please take the time to read ALL of this.
First: rough Delivery Schedule Monroe County gets deliveries on Mon, Tues, Wed and Sat.
Owen County gets delivery on Monday
Lawrence, Greene, and Morgan get deliveries on Wednesday.
We do not have enough drivers or gas to deliver to outer counties on more than 1 day, so it's just 1 BIG Day
Second: Again delivery is for the 100% HOME BOUND only. This can be sickness, disability, or no car. You MUST be home to sign for the food, we can NEVER EVER leave it, unless there is a cooler placed outside with a good lid on it. If you have an emergency or a medical appt where someone is taking you to it, you can cancel, but pls do it before 11am. I know I do not answer the phone in the morning, it's ok to leave a message. We are following health code and food safety rules, it is not a choice, it is a law.
Third: Same day delivery is not available.
Fourth: READ that section of rules before you check the box saying that you read it! Things are explained very well in that section. You can't complain when you check the box saying you read the rules, but then are not happy when that rule happens.
Fifth and final : Yes, delivery is MUCH MUCH smaller than what you would get by coming to the pantry OR having someone pick up for you. It will not feed your family for a week, we are supplemental, as is every other food pantry. We have many deliveries and few drivers and there is only so much room in a vehicle to cram all of those deliveries in. Also, food safety requires us to us a cooler if sending frozen or cooler items foods. Thus, we almost NEVER send meat ( other than canned ), Produce, dairy, cooler things, etc. We have been lucky enough to send eggs recently a bit and potatoes or fruit when we have it. We are also limited as to what we can send based on what we have. Just because you see it in a video, doesn't mean it is available for delivery as delivery is long gone BEFORE trucks every get to us. You can't complain when you tell us I need a delivery, BUT do not send dryed beans or canned goods, as I have enough of those, and that is all we have. Doesn't mean we are denying you delivery, it means you have said DO NOT SEND these items, thus if we have nothing else to safely send, we will not send the delivery, as per your wish. We also will not just delivery 1 bag of cereal.
OK that was long, hopefully people understand better now, PLEASE SHARE!

What a perfect day for Bloomington Pride Fest! Thank you Andrew Hodges and Carson for tabling for Pantry 279 and bringing out the Strawberry Car at this wonderful and fun event! We got to see a lot of friends and make new ones. Some people learned about our resources available, some signed up to volunteer and some dropped donations. Also much thanks to Crystal Ritter and her fine staff in Bloomington for hosting this well run event. ... See MoreSee Less

Repost of our hours!

We are watching the progression of the flood waters as it travels south towards us. While Pantry is not in any danger, many of the people we serve, esp. in Owen and Morgan counties are. We are cautiously continuing the normal delivery schedule this week, BUT if our drivers come across flooded roads, they are instructed to turn around and we will deliver another day. Hopefully this will not happen, but just in case we are putting the word out. Thank you for patience. ... See MoreSee Less
