For those of you who donated to the Indy truck late last week....this is a pic of the full 20' truck , 9 pallets worth of food! This includes, but is not limited too, jars of mayo, planters cheese balls, Powered, a huge pallet of preboxed fresh produce, various dairy products, canned tuna, canned red beans, canned corn, m&m candy, and so much more. Although this weighs in at a little over 19,000 lbs, a retail value of around $16,000+, and seems like a whole lot, it will last 1 week if we are lucky under current covid-19 conditions. BUT thats 1 week of amazing food for a whole lot of people!!! Thank you to all those who find ways to donate in these increasingly difficult and scary times. ... See MoreSee Less

I want to send out a special Thank you to our amazing group of Sat. delivery drivers and the ladies that keeps track of it all for me, Angie Eaton and her Daughter. Also Bobby Overman and her Asst. as well who pick up for Hotels For Homeless. Delivery to the homebound is not a normal service for pantries, but we've always felt that people need to eat, even if they can't leave their house. Normally we have 6-8 deliveries and week, but since COVID started we do 25-40 deliveries a week PLUS H4H picks up 15-25 boxes of food for their people in the hotels. Today, our drivers and Bobby went the extra mile and not only delivered our boxes, but then went to the mall and picked up boxes from the Hoosier Hills Food Bank give away and made a 2nd delivery so everyone could have extras!! Thank you team for going up and beyond!! ... See MoreSee Less

Pantry 279 Update:
I feel like everything is starting to open up to the sunlight. Picture a morning Glory opening with the early rays of warmth. I am happy to report than our numbers have leveled off! We are still seeing much higher numbers than this time in previous months/years, BUT they are not increasing any more. Instead of 50% being new families each day, its now 5-10 new families. AND we have families starting to slow down and only come once in a while not every week. Yes, there is still a need. I wish I could say there was NOT a need, but we are a long way from that. Maybe some year in the far future there will no longer be a need for food Pantries, just not today.
We are staying with the drive thru method at least thru June, as that is what the CDC recommends. We ARE starting to open up to a limited number of volunteers again on June 1. If you want to volunteer, please contact us to schedule a day. We do ask that IF you are scheduled, please show up as we will be counting on you with still running on limited volunteers. If you love to garden, we can ALWAYS use help in the gardens which will be fully planted by the end of tomorrow. SO weeding will need to be done and watering. We also have a capital fund acct at Old National now as we continue to go for a larger building of our own.
We at Pantry 279 want to thank every one, individuals, families, businesses, and organizations of all forms who have gone WAY up and above in getting us thru these last few months. Herculean efforts and results. While we continue to need support as always with food/toiletry , and cash donations, a lot of the pressure is easing. Please take a deep breath, smile, pat yourself on the back, and have a beverage of your choice in a job well done!

This weekend, we are hoping to raise enough funds to pay for the 4th Thurs truck which is this week ( I know I can't believe it either! ) Its $250 for truck rental and gas, BUT we take it to Indy and receive upwards of $16,000 in food for basically free. Its a great deal! We also need enough to cover our Offsite storage ( $200 ), If we go above $450, that will go to purchase food, as always, but the $450 is needed asap. Donations can be made via Paypal at pantry279@yahoo.com VENMO at @pantry279 or mailed to our new P.O. Box 312, Ellettsville, IN 47429 or just brought by the pantry. Please SHARE, and if you want a donation to go in Honor of someone, please let us know so we can do a special post for them. Thank you all so much for making it possible for us to feed so many during the difficult time! ... See MoreSee Less

Are gou guys open for pickup on Saturday?

What is the delivery range? I’m trying to help a friend and his granddaughter over here in Bloomington on 10th st near the post office. Wanted to see what options are out there for him before I made the recommendations Thank you. He just let me know that the State food boxes are ending.
